Bill Sperring

Bill Sperring was appointed as a Board Member in February 2008 after retiring from over forty years experience in state education. He brings with him proven experience as a leader and manager with a wide range of specific skills.

He is Chairman of the Communications Sub-Committee and Director responsible for Science and Academia. With over 22 years experience as a secondary school Principal in the Sunshine Coast, Townsville and the Burdekin, Bill is well suited to this role.

He has received many recognitions and rewards for his work over the years. Some of the most notable are that Townsville State High School was listed in the top 11 schools in Australia for innovation. Bill was also listed in the 2007 inaugural publication of ‘Who’s Who in Queensland’ and, in 2008, received the Townsville City Council Australia Day Community Achievement Award.

Bill is the son of a Gordonvale cane farmer, and while he has spent a lifetime in education, he says he’s never lost his passion for the land. He has a long-term interest in sustainability and aims to work to continually benefit and improve land and water management in the Dry Tropics region.

He holds a Certificate in Teaching, a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from James Cook University.
