Norm Linthwaite

Company Secretary

As Company Secretary, Norm administers the affairs of NQ Dry Tropics and the business of the Board. He is also involved with the organisation’s corporate governance policies and practices.

Norm retired in 2003 after 35 years in the banking industry and 12 years with James Cook University.

He was born in Mackay and attended schools at Finch Hatton, Mackay, Gutherlungra, Ayr and Cairns.

Norm began his working life in 1956 when he joined the ANZ Bank in Cairns. From there he worked in a number of other branches in north Queensland such as Rockhampton, Mackay, Home Hill, Townsville, Charters Towers, and Ingham. He spent six years working for ANZ in PNG at Port Moresby and Boroko. In 1984 he was appointed Regional Chief Manager responsible for north Queensland ANZ branches and staff.

In 1991 he accepted a position with James Cook University in the financial department on special projects and in 1993 was appointed General Manager of the James Cook University Student Association.

Today, Norm also acts as Company Secretary of the Cowboys Leagues Club, Townsville Regional Telecom, Townsville Area Woodturners, and is Treasurer of Mount Fullstop Ewan Camp Committee. He has recently resigned as Chairman of Dance North after 17 years and Townsville Vets Tennis after five years.
