About us

NQ Dry Tropics, formerly Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM, is a community based, not-for-profit company. It was established in 2002 to deliver land and water management activities and enhance the community’s involvement in those issues throughout the region.

The Burdekin Dry Tropics region covers an area of 140,000 square kilometres with about 210,000 residents. The majority of those people live in Townsville (over 160,000) and other rural centres such as Charters Towers, Ayr, Home Hill, Bowen, the lower Burdekin towns, Collinsville, as well as the Alpha and Clermont districts. Away from the major centres the region is very sparsely populated.

The majority of our funding comes under the new Australian Government Caring for Our Country Programme, announced in March 2008. Caring for our Country Programme will bring together delivery of a raft of Australian Government programs into an integrated package with one clear goal, a business approach to investment, clearly articulated outcomes and priorities and improved accountability.

NQ Dry Tropics board members are drawn from traditional owner groups, local government, the sciences and the community.

Burdekin Solutions Ltd. , trading as NQ Dry Tropics, has two state government advisors; an Australian Government advisor; and, a Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority advisor.

Membership in Burdekin Solutions Ltd. is open to the community.
