Phil Rist is a Traditional Owner
from the Nywaigi people and has extensive experience in cultural
and land and water management.
Phil is Chief Executive Officer and
a founding member of the Girringun Aboriginal Corporation based in
Cardwell and is also the appointed Traditional Owner Board member
on the NQ Dry Tropics Board. He was appointed to the board in
2003 and, again, in March 2007.
Phil is an active member in the
community and currently sits on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
Authority Indigenous Reef Advisory Committee.
He is currently involved in the
establishment of the North Queensland Traditional Owner Land and
Sea Management Alliance, which is an alliance between a number of
regional land and water management bodies. The aim of this alliance
is to deliver better outcomes for Traditional Owners in land and
water management at a policy level.
