Ian Dight is a graduate of James
Cook University where he undertook PhD research in marine
science.
He has long held a strong
professional involvement and interest in the issue of land-based
sources of marine pollution from scientific, management and policy
perspectives.
Ian has worked as a Scientific
Advisor to the Australian Government and United Nations on the
impacts of mining activities on human health and the environment in
freshwater and marine systems. While working for the United
Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) from 1993 to 1997, Ian
supported Governments from the Asia-Pacific region to undertake
national assessments of land-based sources of marine pollution as a
basis for developing the global programme of action for the
protection of the marine environment from land-based
activities.
