Sam Savage

Project Officer

Sam’s role is to assist Aboriginal Traditional Owner clan groups to engage in natural and cultural resource management. The role also facilitates information sharing between Aboriginal Traditional Owner clan groups, government bodies and other community groups.

Born and raised in Townsville, Sam has both Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultural background.  Because Sam’s father is a Traditional Healer, Sam is fortunate to learn the different cultural practices and use of various natural resources in this area. With Traditional Owner ties to North Queensland through his Aboriginal mother, Sam has great associations with the land through its cultural resources, ancestral stories and spiritual connection to country.

Sam is currently participating in the Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) with a $50,000 sponsorship from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and support from NQ Dry Tropics. The program is designed to further develop individuals who are already active in rural, remote and regional Australia. ARLP participants are selected for their commitment and capacity to lead at state or national levels, to think strategically and their passion for improving the sustainability of rural and regional Australia.
