Duey the Dugong

Meet Duey the Dugong.

NQ Dry Tropics introduced him to the region to help raise awareness on how pollution in our waterways damages our marine life and their homes.

People do not always realise that stormwater, the water that runs off the land after it rains, often washes rubbish like cigarette butts, plastic bags and other things into our creeks and out to sea.

Three television advertisements were run featuring Duey the Dugong, Drain Man, and stormwater express. This material was also presented to a number of Reef Guardian Schools, reaching over 900 children.

In one of the TV ads, a disgruntled Duey the Dugong decides to return the humans’ favour by dumping rubbish that has made its way into his home in the sea, into local houses. While in another, his friend and overworked superhero Drain Man struggles in his efforts to educate people to clean up their act.
