of sugar, fruit and vegetable farms

25 hectares
of coastal vegetation

Reduced the use of fertiliser on
20,000 hectares of farmland near the
Great Barrier Reef

Improved
the quality of soil on
15,000 hectares
of land in the dry tropics region

We have removed barriers
to fish movement along
5,000 kilometres
of creeks and rivers

We have helped over
90 families in semi-urban areas
to protect native plants in their backyard

Helping Coastcare Groups

Volunteer groups in our region do fantastic work looking after our beaches and marine environment, monitoring our flora and fauna and educating the community on best management practice.

Volunteers are made up of a cross section of community, from experts in particular fields to children, retirees, students, local residents ...basically, anybody with a keen interest in preserving our coastal and marine environment.

NQ Dry Tropics has produced a helpful book called Caring for our Coast – Community Resource Book to guide groups through issues like governance, attracting more volunteers, monitoring and evaluation and project development.
