Future leaders Eco Challenge Bowen

Future leaders Eco Challenge comes to Bowen on the 9th of September. NQ Dry Tropics shares a partnership with GBRMPA and the Reef Guardian Schools program.

The Reef Guardian program is an initiative covering the entire QLD state coastline and aims to promote sustainability in schools to protect the Great Barrier Reef.  The program offers educational resources, in-class programs, networking opportunities and funding opportunities.

As part of the program, Future Leaders Eco Challenge (FLEC) is a yearly event each where Reef Guardian Schools are invited to come together to showcase some of their sustainability activities.  This year sees an exciting day planned in Bowen which will include tree planting; water quality monitoring, macro invertebrate sampling and a beach cleanup.  For more on the Reef Guardian Schools project, see www.gbrmpa.gov.au or www.nqdrytropics.com.au

National Tree Day

Nat Tree Day

On Sunday the 2nd of August Whitsunday Regional Council hosted National Tree Day at Queens Beach Bowen. Council were assisted by NQ Dry Tropics and Queens Beach Action Group (QBAG). QBAG are supported by the CAM project: Empowering the community Coastcare movement in the Burdekin Dry Tropics. Aaron Payne from the NQ Cowboys and Warren Crocker from Filby’s Toyota lent a hand on the day. The day was successful with 40 participants planting approximately 140 trees.

More recognition for QBAG

QBAGQueens Beach Action Group (QBAG) continues to gather recognition for their hard work. The latest achievement comes from Landcare Queensland who nominated them for this year’s awards.
