Writing Winning Grants Training Opportunity



NQ Dry Tropics is pleased to invite project staff and volunteers from community natural resource management groups to attend Writing Winning Grants training.  This course will be delivered by the Australian Institute of Community Practice and Governance.

St Michaels School Beach Clean Up

On the 25th of Feburary Paul Wuth, Leonie Maddigan (GBRMPA) and Gail Barry (GBRMPA) travelled to Palm Island to participate in St Michaels School Beach Clean Up.  Students showed off thier knowledge about the influences of litter on the Great Barrier Reef and the importance of coastal vegetation before heading down to the beach to put the theory in practice.

 

Reef Guardian schools

Wulguru School become newest Reef Guardians

Wulguru school went on a litter blitz in Feburary as part of becomming the most recent addition to the Reef Guardian Schools program.  Paul wuth and Leonie Maddigan (GBRMPA) were on hand to help discuss what students can do to help out our reef and later got the gloves on to help pick up rubbish from the school grounds.

Traditional Owner Investment Proposal under Caring for Our Country

TOMG Nov 08 057NQ Dry Tropics in partnership with the Traditional Owner Management Group submitted an investment proposal to the Australia Government under the Caring for our Country initiative.

The investment proposal is seeking resources for the following projects:

• land and sea country management plans

TOMG Nov 08 048• traditional ecological recording

• devolved grants to support implementation of land and sea country management plans.

It is expected that NQ Dry Tropics will be informed by June on the success of the investment proposal.

 

Manbarra Land and Sea Management Plan

The Manbarra people who are the Traditional Owners of Palm Island are currently developing a land and sea management plan. 

The Manbarra Land and Sea Management Plan will identify priority cultural and environmental issues for the Manbarra people and assists them to plan their strategic direction for land and sea management in their Traditional Country.
