A Caring for Country Plan
was published in December, 2005. It is a landmark document
addressing Traditional Owner involvement in land and water
management throughout the region.
The Caring for Country Plan was developed in extensive
consultation with Traditional Owner groups located in the Burdekin
Dry Tropics region.
The Caring for Country Plan was developed because
the primary focus of the Burdekin Dry Tropics Natural Resource
Management Plan was primarily resource condition. This often
excluded the social, economic, cultural and institutional issues so
integral to natural resource management in a Traditional Owner
context.
To address these equally
important issues, and to ensure that Traditional Owner aspirations
for natural resource management are adequately represented, a
Traditional Owner
Plan was developed to complement and add value to the
Regional Natural Resource
Management Plan.
