This basin consists of two subcatchments. These are:
Ross RiverRoss River is a very small subcatchment, comprising just over 1,200 square kilometres.
This subcatchment contains the city of Townsville, which is the major capital city for north Queensland. Castle Hill is located in the centre of Townsville and Magnetic Island is located just over 10 kilometres off the coast. Townsville is also home to the Port of Townsville.
The area consists of a number of rivers and creeks. These are: Alligator Creek, Stuart Creek, Ross River and Ross Creek.
The Traditional Owners are the Bindal people.
Black RiverBlack River is a very small subcatchment, comprising just over 1,300 square kilometres.
Located just on the outskirts of the city of Townsville, this subcatchment is home to Paluma Dam, the Bohle River, Black River, and a number of creeks. It also includes the Palm Group of Islands.
The Traditional Owners are the Bindal and Manbarra people.
