LDC project builds on existing BBB grazier support initiatives
MORE than 90 per cent of land in the Bowen Broken Bogie catchment (BBB) is used for grazing.
The BBB grazier support program is part of the Landholders Driving Change project.
The BBB Grazier Support program aims to provide every BBB grazier with education, training, technical support and incentives to help them adopt improved land management practices.
Approaches include:
- providing property mapping, and training activities designed to encourage graziers to get involved – with a particular focus on those who have not previously engaged;
- engaging with and supporting land managers to undertake activities to develop their skills and knowledge and implement practice change. This includes working with individuals and fostering peer, demonstration and cluster groups;
- delivering a comprehensive technical advice and support program that works with individuals and groups; and
- supporting landholders to adopt industry best practice,
and establishing systems to reward and recognise these achievements.
