NQ Dry Tropics has successfully designed and delivered outstanding projects alongside a wide range of partners.
Building partnerships through effective community engagement and participation is at the core of our delivery model.
We cherish these strong, long standing relationships with landholders and land managers, Traditional Owners, community landcare groups, industry and science bodies, and all levels of government.
These close links, based on respect and a shared commitment to supporting the region help us deliver lasting, impactful outcomes for both the environment and the communities we serve.
The expertise and experience offered by these partners enrich our projects, helping us tackle often complex environmental challenges.
Our staff also regularly lead, or contribute to, planning initiatives involving groups who share our vision of healthy landscapes and thriving communities in the Burdekin Dry Tropics.

Landholders and land managers
Our Grazing and Sugar teams work closely with primary producers to build capacity for best management practices.
This support includes access to extension services, property planning assistance, workshops, training, and incentives. Implementing best practices is a win-win for productivity and reducing impacts of runoff to the Great Barrier Reef.
Traditional Owners
We have a long history of close engagement with Traditional Owners, with a particular focus on increasing their capacity to reconnect with, and care for, Country.
We established the Traditional Owner Management Group (TOMG) in 2003, which consists of leaders from 14 Traditional Owner groups in the region.
We work closely with the TOMG to guide our initiatives, including our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2023-2026.
Community groups
Landcare and community groups carry out vital voluntary work to protect their local environment.
We provide support for these groups in a variety of ways, including sourcing seeds for revegetation, promoting events, or assisting with grant applications.
Science and industry bodies
We collaborate with a variety of science and industry bodies whose expertise and experience enrich our projects and help us tackle complex environmental challenges.
Government
We partner with the Australian and Queensland governments to improve land, water and biodiversity. strengthen regional economies and support Traditional Owner leadership in natural resource management.
Our local knowledge, community connections and strong track record of project delivery resulted in the Australian Government inviting us to join its Panel of Regional Partners.
Two decades of impact: NQ Dry Tropics and JCU TropWATER’s long-standing partnership
For more than 20 years, NQ Dry Tropics and JCU’s TropWATER (Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research) have collaborated to protect and restore aquatic ecosystems across the Burdekin catchment and beyond.
NQ Dry Tropics partners with graziers to improve enterprise performance, landscape health and resilience while reducing topsoil loss into waterways and the Great Barrier Reef.
