Productive pastures, land condition and soils will be improved through grazier support program
Graziers in the Belyando-Suttor catchment are receiving targeted financial and educational support to enable them deliver on-ground practice changes, aimed at improving land condition and pasture productivity.
NQ Dry Tropics’ Burdekin Productive Pastures (BPP) project kicked off in January 2025 and will run until the end of June 2028. The $1.4 million project is funded by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.
The project is directly engaging 10 grazing enterprises in one-on-one extension, peer-to-peer learning, and specialist support.
All graziers in the region will have opportunities to participate in events funded by the project. These events will focus on natural capital, emissions, production, pasture health, soil health, and land condition. The Burdekin Productive Pastures project is building on other investments in the region, such as the GRASS and GEST projects. The project aims to support the agricultural industry reduce emissions and improve climate resilience, by upskilling graziers and supporting the adoption of sustainable land practices in the region that improve pasture productivity and preserving biodiversity.
