Reducing climate threats, improving habitat key goals
The Climate-Ready Coastlines in the Lower Burdekin project will protect coastal and wetland ecosystems by reducing the threat of weeds, pests, and bushfires.
Project activities will focus on improving fish migration, and the condition of wetlands, streambanks, coastal zones and beach scrub.
The project will build on the achievements of previous NQ Dry Tropics projects in the Lower Burdekin, including the Australian Government-funded From the Land to the Sea: Connecting Coastal Ecosystems (2020-24), and Restoring Bowling Green Bay Wetlands (2019-2023) projects, and the Queensland Government-funded Reducing Burdekin Sediment (2018-2022) project.
This project is one of three being delivered by NQ Dry Tropics as part of the Queensland Government’s Natural Resource Management Expansion Program.
Delivered in collaboration with Natural Resource Management (NRM) Regions Queensland, the $117.8 million program expands the capacity of regional NRM organisations to deliver on-ground land, water and biodiversity programs across the State.
The other projects NQ Dry Tropics is delivering under this program are Fighting Invasive Species Together and Climate-Resilient Rangelands.
The Climate-Ready Coastlines project is delivered by NQ Dry Tropics through funding from the Queensland Government’s Natural Resource Management Expansion Program.
