Safeguarding Pinnacles Reserve by addressing erosion problems
NQ Dry Tropics is partnering with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) to tackle erosion at Pinnacles Reserve, safeguarding a site managed for conservation, not commercial use.
We’re supporting QPWS by assessing erosion issues and helping develop practical, staged solutions.
This includes:
- gathering data (desktop and on-ground);
- pinpointing erosion causes;
- planning remediation actions, timelines, and priorities;
- setting up monitoring; and
- supporting implementation and follow-up maintenance as needed.
QPWS will carry out the on-ground works using their own site budget, and both teams will monitor the site after the wet season to check how treatments are holding up and what tweaks might be needed.
But this isn’t just about fixing one site, we’re capturing the whole process in a guide and video to help train QPWS rangers and build long-term capacity.
These resources will:
- retain and transfer knowledge, even as staff move on;
- support consistent, evidence-based methods across teams;
- help refine future projects based on what works;
- empower others including rangers, landholders, or community groups, to apply the techniques themselves;
- provide transparency and accountability; and
- enable success to be replicated in other locations.
For NQ Dry Tropics, this approach showcases our Remediation Team’s expertise and practical know-how, strengthens partnerships, and creates tools that support long-term land management success across the region.
