The Burdekin Region Landscape Repair Project is governed through a framework to ensure effective planning, implementation, and monitoring. Key components of this governance include:
NQ Dry Tropics as the Regional Delivery Provider —
Program Manager Rob Hunt.
As the leading natural resource management body for the Burdekin Dry Tropics region, NQ Dry Tropics is responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the project.
It includes representatives from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water (DCCEEW), CSIRO, the Office of the Great Barrier Reef, and Traditional Owners.
The committee ensures strategic alignment and accountability.
Regional Working Group —
This group advises NQ Dry Tropics on operational matters and helps build regional capacity.
It comprises representatives from landholders, local government, science, First Nations, and other community sectors, ensuring community engagement and alignment with regional needs.
Independent Technical Expert —
An independent technical expert is responsible for calculating sediment savings before tenders are released.
This ensures that project designs meet sediment reduction goals and are cost-effective.
Tender Evaluation Panel —
After sediment savings are calculated, this panel evaluates tenders to ensure that selected providers align with project requirements and deliver value for money.
The panel includes NQ Dry Tropics staff, an expert, and a Traditional Owner representative, ensuring transparency and fair assessment.
These governance structures ensure the project remains focused, transparent, and collaborative, with clear roles in achieving sediment reduction and landscape repair.
