About the Regional Pest Management Grants

NQ Dry Tropics is providing $70,000 in 2016-2017 to fund the strategic control of priority weeds in the Burdekin Dry Tropics region.

Each project will have activities contributing towards outcomes of the Regional Pest Management Strategy for the Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM Region 2014-19.

NQ Dry Tropics is managing these grants, which are funded through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Regional Natural Resource Management Investment Program.

Who can apply?

Landholder, community or landcare group, or local government are eligible.

What do the grants cover?

The funding will be used for new or existing projects. The grants will be available for projects which undertake on-ground work with a focus on reducing the impact on agricultural or environmental assets, or preventing the spread of new incursions by containing or eradicating isolated infestations.

Weeds which will be funded under this programme are:

  • Prickly acacia (Vachellia nilotica)
  • Parthenium (Parthenium hysterophorus) or bellyache bush (Jatropha gossypiifolia)
  • Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata)
  • Gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus)
  • Sagittaria (Sagittaria platyphylla)
  • Parkinsonia (Parkinsonia aculeate)
