Traditional Owner Management Group

NQ Dry Tropics set up the Traditional Owner Management Group in 2003. It meets at least three times a year to discuss natural and cultural heritage issues.

There are 15 Traditional Owner representatives involved in the group, and they’re represented by an executive core of four.

When the group started six years ago, it wanted to be the hub for Indigenous people interested in managing land and sea. Since that time, it has worked well towards this objective and continues to enjoy strong support today. Members of the group have commented that they are happy NQ Dry Tropics supports them getting together at a regional level.

Recently, NQ Dry Tropics set up a Facebook page for members of the group to better communicate with each other.

The NQ Dry Tropics Traditional Owner Management Group has three priorities over the next two years; manage land, acquire land and develop traditional ecological systems.

NQ Dry Tropics has committed to helping the group in any way we can. This help will enable the group to expand on its pass successes and make it even stronger for the future.
