Competition open for entries from
20 September, 2023 to 30 January, 2024.
Prizewinners notified in February, 2024.
Photographs entered in this competition need to have been taken in 2023 in the Burdekin Dry Tropics region.
The Burdekin Dry Tropics is unquestionably a beautiful part of the world.
It has inspired us to celebrate the region through a photography competition. We’re looking for amazing standalone images that capture ‘our environment’, ‘our people’ and ‘our work’ to show off all the dry tropics offers.
In addition to an impressive prize pool, the finalists and category winners will feature in the NQ Dry Tropics 2024 calendar. They will also be exhibited at a celebratory event held at Flagstaff Hill in January. A list of the winners will be published on the NQ Dry Tropics website, along with their winning photos.
Judging the competition will be renowned photographer Scott Radford-Chisholm, a familiar face in the North, having been chief photographer for 20 of the 25 years he worked at the Townsville Bulletin. Now he runs his own studio.

The competition
Our Environment
The landscape, the animals, the sights and sounds of the world around us… entries in this category should embody the spirit of the dry tropics. Photographs might include people but it is the environment that should be dominant in the image.

Our Work
Work in the Burdekin Dry Tropics includes an enormous range of activities and some of it might not include people… “working” dogs, for instance. Most likely, images in this category will show people at work. It’s important to focus on the work.
