Seven Belmore Downs gullies across 19ha remediated

The rain arrived… and look at the result! Taken from ground level, it’s easy to see the whole area is flush with new growth.

Remediation work carried out at Belmore Downs on seven active gullies covering 19ha is now complete.

It’s been a big job and it will have a big impact. The gullies, which have been reshaped, rock chutes installed, and revegetated, had been sending an estimated 4617 tonnes of sediment downstream every year.

Until this intervention, they had been expanding at an accelerated rate.

The work was designed and constructed by Neilly Group Engineering. Even at this early stage, the difference is spectacular.

The gully remediation work is part of the Landholders Driving Change project funded by the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.

The photographs of work before, during and after the intervention work are a selection from four of the seven sites.
